Artist Statement Ever since I first remember taking pictures with a battered Brownie on a family road trip forty years ago, I've been intrigued with the little universes you can create through the viewfinder. All those years and infinite frames later, about all I can definitively say about the photographic process is that the distinction between a nice "picture of something" and an arresting visual image is mighty subtle indeed. Here is a collection of images that, for one reason or another, strike a resonance with a thread of my creative musings. The reasons are as varied as the subject matter. True to my geeky nature, many of the pictures are favorites simply because of some technical challenge met or equipment limits explored. Others pay homage to Henri Cartier-Bresson and his "decisive moment" by freezing time for a reflective examination of Life’s strange synchronicities. And sometimes the camera just needs to be an unbiased recorder of Nature’s most humbling visages. Since I really enjoy creating photos for my own amusement, it was difficult to trim down my list of favorites to those on display. But the final result is that each one of these images is one that I never tire of looking at with a new eye. It is my earnest hope that your new eyes never tire of looking for Resonance and Harmony in both my images and your own creative ventures. |
